whoah nelly.... thats alot of steps, haha... anyway, the disks are
scsi. now we have learned that there are actually 2 failing disks...
hdisk 1 & hdisk4. Also, it is believed that the data on the disks is
corrupted, and also the mirrored copies are corrupted.
so...
there is a good copy of the data on tape.
basically, both of the failing disks were for a VG called vg01.
I've never worked with AIX 4.3 before, and I have done some research,
on several IBM websites, including pSeries InfoCenter, etc... but have
not yet found a method for replacing the failed disks using tape
backup instead of mirrored copies. it is as simple as:
1)bring down the system
2)replace the failing disks
3)bring up the system and do a cfgmgr to recognize the new drives
4)do a restvg from tape to restore the volume groups
???
from my previous experience with AIX 5.x, I am assuming that it it NOT
that simple, that there is probably much more to it, but there seems
to be a lack of good AIX 4.3 documentation that describes the correct
method for this situation.
Anybody done this before, or have anything to offer?
thanks in advance,
-P
