LINUX for POWER install problem

I have successfully installed RHEL for POWER ver 3 upd 3 on a p520
partition where the disk was an entire disk allocated to the lpar by
means of a VPATH on the VIO Server.
When I try to allocate a LV and present this as a disk to the LPAR,
the LINUX installation hangs at 11% in the formatting phase. This
happens every time and in the same place.
Is this a supported configuration for the installation ? Is there a
document/web-site that states otherwise ? I have not been able to
find one.
I obviously would like to create several small LINUX partitions for
testing and I don't have enough physical disks to allocate one for
each partition.
Is there a more appropriate group for this type of post ? I looked
but didn't find any for LINUX on POWER.
Thanks
.
