Can you explain all this? I've tried to find info on
Fedora/AIX/(open)ssh, but found nothing usable so far.
The point is simple to get an old fashioned remote display to work
without any tunneling needed.
You have to find out what the cause of the problem is. This means to
simplfy the problem as much as possible. And an easy approach is just
to use ssh without any option since it set the display variable right
away or use rsh and set the display variable by hand.
Eitherway this has to function first on the linux box because if it
will not work there how shall work from another machine ?
So configure your fedora linux box for remote display without using
tunneling. ( Do not forget to use ( xhost + )
In the old unparanoid days a simple
$[LXBOX] xhost +
$[LXBOX] rsh LXBOX
${LXBOX} export DISPLAY=LXBOX:0.0
${LXBOX} xclock
was enough
So read the documentation about fedora to get an standard rsh/ssh
access for remote display.

BTW: If you logii to another server the command
$ who am i
give also some usefull information
.
