Folks,
I have a B50 and I am trying to set it up for auto start after a power
failure. The service guide says I need to set a power on password
(POP) before unattended start mode can be set. I setup a power on
password and set unattended start mode to ON in SMS. But it doesn't
work when I test it, the machine doesn't come back on when I cut the
power and reapply. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
No lights, no errors, no beeps? IBM tries pretty hard to provide
feedback, usually you can find something more than "doesn't work".
Make sure your boot disk is the first device listed in the
multiboot list.
B50 was withdrawn in 2003, so your unit is at least 5 years
old. Is the lithium battery still good?
Make sure that the microcode is up to date.
Make sure that your boot image matches your running system:
bosboot -ad /dev/ipldevice
