Internal Information
Project Area Description
Ensure that system availability targets are exceeded for assigned systems. Change and problem management targets are exceeded. Ensure that customer satisfactory levels are exceeded. Assist with project deployment
Internal Job Description (e.g. the deliverables/results the candidate is expected to achieve)
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Plan upgrades and other changes to the UNIX environment
• Actively and pre-emtively determine possible failure faults and causes
• Provide Team Leaders with input re projects/direction when required
• Manage and resolve problems identified by users or monitoring software
• Work with change and problem management tools
• Provide technical assistance to the other members of the System Administration team
• Hardware fault detection and correction - vendor liasing
• Liase with customer accounts as required
• 24x7 support
Mandatory Skills
• Strong AIX 4.3.x & 5. x 6.x System administration experience
• Strong problem determination skills
• Ability to work unsupervised on several issues concurrently
• Able to perform disk management functions such as extending logical volumes, creating file systems, mirroring disks (ie. Not through SMIT)
• Understanding and ability to manually rebuild a kernel
• Proficient in TCP/IP
• Very comfortable with problem and change management practices.
• Excellent RS6000 SP/PSSP (CSM) Installation, configuration and trouble shooting
• HACMP and HACMP/ES skills
• DNS / DHCP skills
• Good Documentation Skills/ Technical Doco i.e. Runbook
• Flexible working hrs eg. Weekend work, after hours
• Performance Monitoring and trouble-shooting.
• Sound Scripting skills
• Able to perform Operating System and Production Upgrades
• Ability to supervise others
• Strong understanding and awareness of AIX system security
• Strong communication skills - both verbal and written
Desired Experience
• TSM/ADSM operational and troubleshooting knowledge
• Knowledge of IBM RS/6000 hardware platforms
• AIX System Admin Certification
• Some Oracle DBA exposure
• SAP exposure
• Strong Vertias (f/s and cluster) experience
