Good Morning Newsgroup,
This is the first time I try to use JRE on FreeBSD.
First I installed the java/jre port, but that does not seem to be enough for
the applications I want to run. (eg. Jdictionary). I presume that it
requires a newer release than 1.1.8.
I googled a bit, and found that I can download a native 1.3.1 JRE binary
from the FreeBSD doundation, called diablo-jre.
As I am not intended to develop anything in JAVA I only need a runtime
environment. So the FreeBSD foundation JAVA page suggests I download and
use something they call latte-diablo.
I downloaded it, and I got a file named diablo-jre-1.3.1.0.tgz.
Here comes my trouble:
As this is a binary package, I know I don't have to do any "make", but I am
definetly sure I have to do something with it. Only I don't find any
instructions on how to do it.
So, could any of you please give me a short instruction list on what steps
to do to get this JRE working?
I suppose I have to place it to a certain location (suggestions are
welcome), I have to add it to my PATH, I have to do something to be able to
use the plug-in with Mozilla, Opera and Konqueror, and maybe there are
other things to do.
Any help is welcome, or I am even well satisfied with an URL that tells me
what to do.
Thanks a million,
Keve
