Exactly how BIG is your / mount?
if it's extremely large (oh say, your entire disk) then it's just taking a
LONG time to fsck the disk...whenever a drive is improperly unmounted, it
has to fsck it on reboot. All mounts (save for /) can be fsck'ed in the
background. / however, cannot.
So just check the hdd light, make sure it's chuggin' away :P
