This is becoming a real pisser, all apps take forever to launch, but run
fine once up. I have 350 MB of free Physical memory, and 256 of swap.
The swap is never used. I have nfsd, smbd, and nmbd running, but performance
is still crap with those off. I also noticed that recently sendmail takes
forever to launch at startup. The overaly system load average is about a
whole whopping 2

I got's me Bell sympatico high speed (ADSL), but i doubt sincerily that it
has anything to day with this since even apps that do no network trafic
*** out. Also the initial connection is where the slowdons occur.. such as
the connection to any server, not the exchange of data. I have gone over
the configuration of the firewall but nothing, I am considering installing
gnome so that i can identify if it is a KDE problem or not.

Please let me know if you have any info on the described symptoms. Even
speculation (other than my monkey like typing skills) will be very welcome
since this has me stunned.I have done nothing to the system between the
time of excellent performance and this crap,
