Now *that's* the one piece of information I couldn't seem to figure out.
I can run xdm from the CLI and it works fine. I just couldn't figure out
how to make it start automatically. Thanks for that tip.

I will definitely check the handbook and read through the section on X.

One followup question - Why doesn't FBSD set kern.securelevel to 0 instead
of 2 when you enable X windows? It took me a while to figure that one
out. Then, I set kern.securelevel to 0 in the /etc/rc.conf and yet, when
I rebooted the machine, kern.securelevel was at 1, according to sysctl. I
had to set it to -1 in the /etc/rc.conf file in order to get X working.

I'm not complaining, but it seems like it would make more sense to set
kern.securelevel to 0 or -1 if, during the install, you choose to install
X Windows.
