The port isn't designed to support building without apop. This
wouldn't be terribly hard to fix; the port maintainer might even
do it for you if you ask nicely. I don't see any easy way around
it other than modifying the makefile.
I don't see any real harm to having apop included even if you're
not using it, but that doesn't guarantee that a reason won't pop
up next week.
