first, this is completely academic as i've installed openbsd, which I'm far
more familiar with, and gotten it working that way =p
Anyway, the card is indeed a dual purpose card, but i didn't need the modem
part working for the install. It wasn't clear to me that it was trying to
activate the modem, mostly because I've not had to use a modem under bsd or
even linux ever =D. Apparently sio is a modem driver?
In terms of the booting issue, the computer claims to support cd-rom
booting, but I haven't seen it do it sucessfully. So I was booting off
floppies and it didn't occur to me that the floppy boot disk might not
include cd-rom drivers, as this would seem like an obvious thing to me. I
also couldn't find any good documentation of what exactly was included in
the boot floppies, which is probably a good part of my problem.
