That's presumably the case. Same thing happens with Darwin 7.
Boots on newer machines but hangs on older ones.

Hmmm. So maybe I should swap the CD drives and try again.

Well, I've been paid for programming for nearly twenty years,
BUT I don't have time to fiddle with this. I'll try a few
experiments, but taking out the McAfee ROM won't be one of
them--it's surface mount soldered.

One idea, before you jogged me with the CD drive idea
was to swap hard drives, build FreeBSD in the other box,
and swap back. But if this McAfee ROM is trying to
"protect me" from a "malicious" boot block, I may have
to choose between FreeBSD sans ethernet and Windoze 98
with ethernet. :-)

McAfee has done a marvelous job of keeping those nuisances
called users from interfering with their tech support people.
