Linux tends to support more hardware than FreeBSD does.
Unfortunately, that sometimes means you can choose to use cheap,
flakey hardware that will make your systems less reliable.

If you are not familiar with the internals of _either_ system, you
have no basis for _any_ recommendation.

You should give them an _honest_ assessment, namely that you imagine
Linux to be preferable, but that you aren't actually competent to tell
them why, and had no better source for searching for "reasoning" to
back up your prejudices than to visit some Usenet newsgroups to look
for other peoples' prejudices.
