The SB Live has an AC96 Codec. The PCM driver is simply detecting the
codec. Sound *should* be working for you. Are you sure that your audio
channels aren't muted? Do sound applications display an error messages?
Also, there's no need to recompile a kernel to get sound. Just load the
appropriate snd_*.ko module (in your case, snd_emu10k1.ko).
