# Greetings,
#
# I recently tried installing a word processor (openoffice or staroffice)
# but both failed to compile properly. To solve dependency problems I had
# to add a few X11 related packages. After logging out I now found out
# that my X window environment no longer works properly.
#
# After typing startx I get the shaded background with the X shaped mouse
# pointer. So far so good, but my window manager doesn't load. I checked
# my .xinitrc which is unchanged. I run the fluxbox window manager.
#
# Can anyone hint me in the right direction to get this back working ...
Run
startx > log 2>&1
and leave X11 (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace might zap the server) look at log
what's happening. Looking at /var/log/XFree86.0.log might provide
additional insight.
It could be you modified/updated some X11 libraries during your package
installation attempts and now your window manager can't find the proper
shared libs. This would explain why X11 works, but your wm does not
start.

Jens
