So do i, of course. Kris presence is precious. Moreover Kris does an
outstanding job of keeping care of the FreeBSD ports, which are, in my
opinion, the most precious asset of the FreeBSD project at present.
You have only to try running any Linux distribution, be it commercial
or not, to see how it is difficult to get up to date and working softs.
FreeBSD has great success in this domain, whatever problems it may have
in developing a completely new kernel. And by the way, it doesn't
perform too bad in this domain either. I have just tried the most recent
Knoppix, with Linux kernel 2.6 on my laptop, and all i can say is that
it hangs (even after setting the noscsi option). While FreesBIE (the
italian live cdrom based on kernel 2.5) works, including ACPI,
including suspending and resetting the pcmcia card - this does *not*
work with freebsd-4. The only thing that does not work is sound.
So, to the morons who pretend that FreeBSD is dying or is dead, i can
only answer that FreeBSD works where Linux doesn't.
