ObNitPick: ``a normal keyboard'', as in us-laid-out, does not have that key,
but a larger shift instead. Some others, like german-laid-out, do have it.

What do you mean? You're saying that this problem persists across all
OSen tried on the laptop? If so, it's not a FreeBSD problem, but some
sort of hardware problem.

Or are you saying you did not have that problem before, but after installing
FreeBSD it popped up and didn't go away even after rebooting? What about
removing _all_ power including battery, wait a short while, then booting
again?

Before you do that, though, it is worth the trouble to check what your
keyboard layout is set to.

What about selecting the right (german) keyboard layout in the setup?

What did you do differently in the installations where it did work? Did
it work correctly still after rebooting from such an installation?
