Oops, I misunderstood; I thought the install completed and _then_ the
disks weren't found on first reboot....two different problems.
That's an odd one; ide support is in the floppy kernel. If the CD is ide
and the system boots from the CD obviously the driver is alive 8-)
However, if the CD is on a different host adapter it might work and the
hard drive might not. The two ata adapters are dubbed zero and one, usually
the CD is on the second,
Have you tried other versions of FBSD? There's quite a list at the moment:
5.2.1, 5.2, 5.1, 5.0, 4.9 and the older versions in archives. I've noticed
considerable differences in behavior between them, admittedly on _much_
older hardware.

If you hit alt-f2 you should get a log screen, scroll-lock and page-up/down
will let you browse it. I don't know of a way to print or save the data.
