        No, I have one IDE hard drive on one of the motherboard connectors,
one optical on the other, and one optical on each of the SIL680 connectors.
There's no RAID on this box at all.

        As for how to get up and running, the trick is that you have to
install FreeBSD twice. First you install it on one of the discs (do a minimal
install), boot it, create the RAID array with atacontrol (all this really does
is record the RAID metadata), then reinstall this time on ar0.

        You could probably use a live CD image to good effect instead of
two installs if you have one to hand.
