Hello all,
Everywhere on the www I find positive stories about the aureal-kmod port
that should bring support for the Aureal Vortex audio cards to FreeBSD.
I have such a card, a Diamond Sonic Impact S90 (which is explicitly
mentioned as working) with a Vortex 8820 chip on it.
Everything compiles properly, but things break when I attempt to kldload
the module in 4.10-RELEASE. Either before the pcm module or after it,
the whole system simply hangs.. hard. There's no kernel panic, no error
message. Just the usual line when the kernel detects hardware that shows
it found a Vortex 8820 chip at location so-and-so (I don't have the
exact line handy). Right after that, it hangs. I don't even get my shell
back and across the network the system also appears as if it were off.
Do any of you know of this problem? I'm aware of problems with certain
VIA chipsets, but this machine is a Pentium II with an Intel chipset.
The card does actually work with Windows 98, so I don't think it's broken.
Details from the card itself:
On the Vortex chip it says: AU8820B2, AAPXP, 9902-MBF66
Printed on the board I find two lines:
Rev-A (the A is a sticker)
P/N:BA88ST20D-04-B (where the B is again a small sticker)
The card originally comes from a Compaq Presario 5868 (if I recall the
number correctly). Compaq's part numer: 350737-001
