i don't know about the NVidea specificly, but with the 3dfx vodoo3 cards
using the svideo output you must have the display set to 640x480@60hz
for it to display correctly. if your regular display is greater than
that it's probably only going to send 640x480 of the total display size
to the tv. mplayer normally puts windows in the upper left corner of
the screen making the rest "invisible" as you say. maybe some useful
info...
