I have been trying, for days, to get some of the multimedia ports
installed. The system is, or rather was, an install of 5.2.1 release, with
Gnome and KDE.
Trying to build MPlayer it appeared the tarballs referenced from the port
no longer existed. Xine did build, I think. Further tools, like transcode
failed on win32-codecs, similar to the MPlayer problem.
So, I cvsup-ed the ports tree, which was apparently a bad idea. Building
now basically requires FORCE_PKG_REGISTER or an endless line of manual
make deinstall and make install ...
And transcode still failed, in xvid. Xvid tried to build gcc 3.4 (???)
which is apparently broken in a fibheap something. The transcode makefile
showed it tried to build with xvid if it found some xvidcore.so.
Deinstalling xvid helped there, transcode build.
Now, back to the player, trying to build xine again (ports were
upgraded) fails in, I think, gnomevfs, somewhere in its configure script.
Is there any way to get this back to normal? How is this supposed to be
done? Or are just the multimedia - and gnome - ports a bit fragile?
