The best way to go about doing this would be first to decide whether you
want to use XFree86 or Xorg, then check the respective web site to see what
cards are supported.

Both XFree86 and Xorg nowadays support a tremendous variety of cards. I
couldn't give you an explicit recommendation to fit your needs, but I'm sure
you can find enough information online to make an educated decision.
