You are correct: some of the "general" drivers (including serial) are
not working / included in the FreeBSD port.
BUT - before you give up, check if your remote is one of the supported
ones. Some drivers are not where you would expect them to be - they are
included in the actual programs.

I found the documentation to be a bit lacking. I had to search quite a
bit to find answers.
Note: it's about 6 months since I looked at LURC, things may have
changed since then.
