It's been years since I last talked to people who did such stuff on
linux[1], but anyway, scene.org might be a useful starting point.
And further, there's at least four different ways of starting graphics
with or without X (various libs, framebuffers on linux, etc.) so with
a bit of creative googling you should be able to get started.
[1] There's a c64 coder nearby, though. Yes, they still exist. Amazing
stuff, but the music is an aquired taste.
