I have been trying FBSD on an ancient IBM 133 junker (works good, if
slow) just to see if I like it. I think I do and want to learn some more
before I decide if I want to give it some real learning effort and
possibly some work to do.
By merging some functions, I was able to unload Linux and free up a decent
machine to load it on. Athelon 2500, 512ram, 160hd, Shuttle AN35N MB (not
my first choice, but it came free with the processor). In all, a pretty
vanilla PC.
On devault boot of the install disk, it stops forever with
"Mounting root from usf:/dev/md0"
CD light off, hd light off.
Three finger salute does nothing.
Has to be a motherboard/FBSD defugalty since if I try the same install CD
on other machines (P4, AMD64, P2) it gets past that point. Nothing
obvious in the bios, but I know so little about what FBSD is looking for
at this point that nothing is very obvious, period.
I will start looking for an new MB after the holidays, but just thought
that I would toss the problem out in public and see if someone can shoot
it down.
Thanks
Hagar
