Funny, I was thinking of a similar problem just today. There is
gramofile -- an app actually meant for recording/encoding good old vinyl
records. It might be a useful tool for your problem, too. You can
configure it to start a new track if there is a pause of a certain
length, so you can just keep quite for a few seconds and start a new
track by doing so. Just an idea. It's in the ports collection
(/usr/ports/audio/gramofile).
