if you go to your /usr/ports
find the port you want to install and or download and type make to just
download it..or make install to do both..then you should be able to run
you newly installed program...
if you've installed gnome from the default install...here's what you do
1:type Xorg -configure...this'll generate a xorg.conf.new in your root dir
2:type X -xf86config /root/xorg.conf.new # this will test your
configuration..if you get a gui black and grey screen you're in
business..that means you're good to go..but you still have to do a few
things..
3: cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf # this will put our new
xorg in the etc/X11 dire
4:type this: echo "usr/X11R6/bin/gnome-session ">~/.xinitrc
now when you type startx it'll load your gnome by default instead of the
terminal
if you get some x11-wm "window mangers you can just install em and
retype you echo to suit what you would like to load ex:
echo "usr/X11R6/bin/wmaker ">~/.xinitrc # this'll load windowmaker when
you type startx
