yes it does.
You should have read /usr/ports/emulators/vmware3/pkg-message:
"If you experience freezes on power on, be sure that the ACPI module is
not loaded."
ACPI is enabled by default on 5.x
But unfortunatelly disabling ACPI could break something else...
