Hi,
I came accross many of your replies in this newsgroup, so I know you in
a way to believe that you did play around with that infamous Radeon
Xpress 200 cards and your system settings to get it working acceptably
before asking such questions. Also, I know nothing about these cards as
I have never seen one, therefore I have no idea how difficult it could
be to get one of these working. Still, I would reconsider this purchase
for a while. AFAIK PCIe is not yet supported on FreeBSD, so at the
moment it doesn't sound logical to invest in a second PCIe card while
you are already blessed with one.
I had similar "blurring" problems with my 19" LCD, even though I used it
through a well supported AGP Radeon 7000 and then a Radeon 9200.
I had to spend quite some time fiddling with it, but finally it looked
nice at 1280x1024 (which is its native resolution).
The key included a mixture of tricks. Downloading some free ISO8859-2
font files and removing many of my existing font files, fiddling with
both the /etc/X11/xorg.conf font settings and the Xft settings in
/usr/X11R6/etc/fonts/local.conf. I also had to play with the
anti-aliasing and other font rendering settings within my X Desktop
solutions (both on XFCE4 and KDE, these are the ones I prefer to use).
Separately neither of these worked, but the right combination of them
did what I wanted to achieve all along.
I got an X Desktop at the native resolution of 1280x1024 of my LCD, and
the fonts appeared nice, it was readable, clear and appealing to my eyes.
It saved my the money of the new card purchase, and there was no
insurance that with a new and different card I don't have to go through
all these settings.
It might be worth to try with your card as well!
Though, it is only a personal view, and I might turn out to be very-very
wrong. :-)
