You called it. Appears the problem was a bad off-brand 256MB DIMM, which
was failing Memtest86 and obviously screwing with the OS. I pulled it,
the box passed Memtest86, and I haven't seen a kernel panic since (knock
on wood). A Kensington replacement DIMM is on the way.
