I recently obtained a copy of the mininst of FreeBSD 5.0 from a
computer magazine and tried installing it on my laptop - Acer
Travelmate 4102WLMi.

The install process stopped at bootup showing the following message --

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fault trap 12 : page fault while in kernel mode
Fault virtual address = 0x0
Fault code = supervisor read, page not present
instruction pointer = 0x8:0x0
stack pointer = 0x10:0xc0acdb84
frame pointer = ox10:0x0
code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x16
             = DPL 0, pres 1, def 32, gran
processor eflags = interrupt enables, resume, 10PL = 0
current process = 0(swapper)
trap number = 12
panic : page fault
Uptime : 1s
Terminate ACPI
panic: free: address 0xc0a99d10 (0xc0a99000) has not been allocated

Uptime : 1s

At this point the system stops responding and I have no other option
but to restart manually. On consulting the install manual on the
installation disc I edited the /boot/loader.conf file with the line ,
     set hint.acpi.0.disabled="1"
and added it to the cd iso. A reburn later I tried installation again
but to no avail. This same problem (ACPI) was observed with Fedora Core
3 and Games Knoppix but setting the variable
     pci=noacpi
I managed to get the system running for these os's. So is there any
work around for FreeBSD 5.0 ?? This is my first venture into unix and
the installation manual wasnt of much help.
