I use Geeklog (http://www.geeklog.net/), which works well, and has lots
of add-ons (forums, gallery plugins, etc).
There is a version in ports (http://www.freshports.org/www/geeklog/),
but it's outdated already. You should used the latest version (currently
1.3.11sr1).

Cons: you can't (easily) use the version ports even if it was upgraded,
because portupgrade does a 'deinstall old version, install new
version' and then your siute will disappear with it.
I wish there was a way to update Geeklog (from ports) that would
work easily, but so far i haven't figured that one out.
Pros: the documentation is good,
       the installation is quite simple,
and the Geeklog project take security seriously.

They will use their browser to write articles.

Pros: it is easy to write plain text articles, and if your'a an editor
you can easily insert images into your aricles.
Cons: if you need html code, you will have to write it (allowed tags are
written on the article submit page, but you must know how to write
       an 'A' tag, for example.

Note: I'm still at version 1.3.8, so they might have fixed this now.
(I'm in the process of upgrading, but I must upgrade FreeBSD on that
machine first).

Geeklog needs a webserver (Apache is good), PHP and MySQL. That's pretty
much it. If you add image libraries (ex gd), you will benefit from that.
