Yes, i have compiled it on FreeBSD-5.4 without problem. You can use the
1.4.2 Java version to bootstrap the build, so no need to mess with
Linux Java. Perfoemancewise i have not seen much difference with
1.5 relative to 1.4, but 1.5 supports the new language features and
has a perhaps nicer swing.
