Hi,

Access Point is configured with authmode shared with 64-bit ascii wepkey.
I have FreeBSD 6, loaded wlan_wep module.
in rc.conf:
ifconfig_ral0="DHCP"

When i try:
ifconfig ral0 ssid name authmode shared channel 13 wemode on \
weptxkey 1 wepkey 1:0x1234567890

in /var/log/messages i get:

ral0: ieee80211_crypto_newkey: no h/w support for cipher WEP, falling back to s/w
ral0: ieee80211_crypto_setkey: WEP keyix 0 flags 0x13 mac 00:14:85:16:d2:11 rsc 0 tsc 0 len 5

      ssid name channel 13
      authmode SHARED privacy ON deftxkey 1 wepkey 1:40-bit

      txpowmax 100 protmode CTS bintval 100

and still "no carrier" :-(

i've had /issues/ with certain cards (prism and atheros at least) that don't like being "jerked" around. with those i have to set one or 2 options at a time. try setting ssid and channel, then run ifconfig to see if it's at least associated. you don't have MAC filtering turned on in the access point do you (assuming this is a retail "network in a box")? if so then it won't associate.
you also stated that you're using an ascii key? why then are you specifying it in hex with ifconfig? ditch the "0x". this won't keep it from associating, but it certainly won't work the way you want.

UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you
have to be a genius to understand it's simplicity.
