Sure. Or at least, you first start reading the INSTALL.txt[1] and a
good chunk of the _FreeBSD handbook_ until you feel confident you
understand what the installation process is about. If necessairy, read
a second time, and then keep the material handy while installing. At
least skim through the FAQl as well. Then you can install.

If you want to be thorough, be prepared to install a few times just to
get a feel for how it's done. You won't do it very often afterwards so
get all the excercise now that you're installing. :-)

As for references: The FreeBSD handbook is a good start. It is on
the FreeBSD project site along with a FAQl and quite a lot of other
documentation. You can also use dejagoogle for quite a lot of references
in this group. Then, learn how to use _The Online Reference Manual_, aka
the manpages. And, of course, the reference sections in the handbook,
the faq, and elsewhere on the site.

Most stuff is available in multiple formats including printable formats,
and manpages are formatted through troff and print nicely, too, if you
know the right incantation.

[1] Or any of the other formats it is available in. I believe at least
html and pdf, probably pdb as well. It can be found in the release
directory or on the cdrom if you got one.
