Don't panic everyone
Still didn't really find any real manual / documentation, but after reading someone else knowledgeable with a slightly similar issue, I went looking a lo and behold there is another port called 'php4-extensions'.
This contained all the missing pieces.
If someone could show us where (eg freebsd site) this was actually documented, that would probably be a helpful resource for anyone using freebsd.
Cheers
Ian

I receive a "xml_parser_create()" error on using a php app on a machine I have installed php4 from ports.
I have tried to follow documentation on installing xml support for php4 - but cannot find any documentation which 'works' on how I can configure this (expat possibly).
I see that expat if installed as a dependancy of (possible) another package - but nothing appears in what seems to be the default directory listed in some docs I have found - in fact even though expat is listed in pkg_info - I cannot find the actual expat tool on the system ("find / -name expat")
Where I am really getting stuck is - I figure - the syntax to use when compiling php4 (/usr/ports/land/php4). I figure it's a "make -D??" command - but cannot find this documented anywhere. Other sources refer to using ./configure --with-expat[=DIR] - but configure only appears to be available in eg a work sub-directory of /usr/ports/lang/php4
If anyone canm point me to documentation for doing this (FreeBSD 6) - or point out the error in what I am trying to achieve, I would appreciate any thoughts / help offered.
Some say: R.T.Manual - my question in this case if Which Manual?
