xenerama breaking remote windows with Xorg/ssh tunnel

I finally had time to narrow down a problem i've been having since upgrading one of my boxes to 5.4 and then on to 6. Running a dual head Matrox g450 and xenerama with wmaker. Try to ssh into another box and launch an X app, all i get a blank window with the proper title (on either head. even does it with xcalc). if i turn off xenerama, then things display as usual. this appears to have come up with the change to Xorg. any ideas on a work around? It does not occur with Slackware 10.2 (Xorg 6.2 IIRC) on the same machine.
