Here is what ive done but something is still amiss. I'll paste what
ive done first.
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost <--- this did nothing for me.. I'll
explain in a second.
192.168.2.1 router router.local
192.168.2.2 asylum asylum.local
192.168.2.3 laptop laptop.local
or whatever.
now when i ping asylum.local it pings my pc... this is good im
guessing. but now when i ping localhost, it pings 127.0.0.1 which
doesnt resolve.
asylum# ping localhost
PING localhost (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: Can't assign requested address
ping: sendto: Can't assign requested address
when I ping 127.0.0.1 I get the same error. Now when I comment that
line out for localhost in the "hosts" file, it resolves localhost to
192.168.1.254. Im guessing that somehow I need to fix it so that
127.0.0.1 is actually localhost which apparently it isnt at the
moment. i also am thinking about changing my other area around to
this.
192.168.2.1 router.local routher
192.168.2.2 asylum.local asylum
192.168.2.3 laptop.local laptop
I think that should be ok?? then the ip is bound to a nickname. I
think once I figure out how to fix the localhost problem my sendmail
will fall into place. I was reading somewhere that someone had a
similar problem with their localhost being screwed and it caused the
same problem.
By the way, thanks allot for being patient with me. I really
appreciate it.
