Wouldn't do that if I were you. Gamin is still a *sub*set of fam.
imho it's better to have something like this in your pkgtools.conf (you
do use portupgrade, do you?)

ALT_PKGDEP = {
'gamin*' => 'fam*',
}

Never any problems. System still runs fam. No complains. All works very
well. No annoying deps ;-)
