I know. In my first followup on the subject I noted something to that
effect, if not as explicit as you do here.
# mysql_dbdir (str): Default to "/var/db/mysql"
# Base database directory.
Personally, I don't like the default too much. I don't really like mysql
at all, but hey. Besides that, however, this is a good point, as it
really is preferrable over symlinking. Unless, of course, the system
also has all sorts of scripts that rely on the former location and don't
follow this variable.
