Re: deleted root user and pw in MySql

I think the problem may have been resolved, perhaps by the resetting
permissions process described in the link below. I went through the
steps earlier, before my last post, and when they didn't result in the
recreation of root, I thought it didn't work. However, using PhpMyAdmin
again, I just tried adding a user ("root") and it worked fine. I tested
it by creating a test database and then dropping it, both of which were
successful.

Currently, when I open PhpMyAdmin it says I'm logged in as an ordinary
user (not root), but as that user I was able to create and drop a
database.

Does that sound right, or am I still missing something?

Thanks.

Tom

I've googled this to death, but can't find a solution that works for
me. The most frequently pointed to web page that I found in response to
similar questions was

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/resetting-permissions.html

Neither of the two alternatives offered for Unix environments proved
successful. Other than the lack of a route user my databases seem to be
running fine.

Can anyone advise me how to recreate root and give it a password??

Many thanks.

Tom
