Well, i have experience of several years using FreeBSD and Linux, and a little
WindowsXP, i like very much FreeBSD, but saying it is ways better than Linux etc. seems marketing speech to me. I have heard several times that FreeBSD
source code is much cleaner than Linux one, etc. i assume these people have
never actually looked at the respective source codes. As for ease of use for
the proverbial "Joe User" nothing beats something like Ubuntu, not to speak of
Windows. The place where FreeBSD was well above the competitors was
performance. Nowadays nobody serious claims that.
I think in mist cases we have been talking about our personal experience and on that basis anyone is entitled to say this system is better then the other. It is not my fault I do like pf much more than ipfilter. It is not my fault I preffer ports over packages. It is not my fault FreeBSD kernel and its way to rebuild it is much nicer for me than in Linux. With respect to many attributes FreeBSD satisfies my needs and expectations in much better way than linux...and therfore I claim IT IS BETTER. But in fact it is subjective statement based fully on my private experience.
I do not agree that ease of use of Windows is far above FreeBSD. It all depends what kind of "everyday use" we are talking about. If you wanna play some high-tech top-notch games FreeBSD will never beat Windows (at least not very quickly) but if you want to use a PC as home server that provides services like: samba, firewall, secure remote access, efficient database and few more *nix should probably be your choice. And I am also a "Joe User" maybe a bit more advanced but still a USER not COMPUTER GEEK.
