I have two computers sharing the Internet connection (cable) via netgear
router.
Port forwarding is turned on for applications like amule, azureus, mail
client etc.
Anyway, after some time I can't connect to my mail server and other
applications that need port forwording. At least until I don't reset the
router and than it's working fine again.
That happens to my computer running freebsd and somethimes winblows so I
suspect that might be the source of the problem.
The other computer is running only winblows and the connection is ok.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Amule and Azureus?? It certainly IS NAT table overflow. Try to turn off
these two programs and see how long you can work without rebooting your
netgear. Better saying... Don't use any P2P program and see what
happens.
By the way, you should stick with only one program. Azureus use
bitTorrent network?? Using emule, my D-Link 500G failed at every 2
hours, and failed after 5 minutes with bitTorrent (using Windows and
port forwarding enabled)
If your router keeps working after you turned off P2P programs, you
should limit the amount of simultaneous connections used by these
programs. I use emule and the default configuration is 200 simultaneous
connections, You need to check by hand, I configured to 50 simultaneous
connections and it keeps working for one week. And before you ask...
No, your P2P program won't run slow or you won't have less sources for
download. One P2P connection isn't one
TCP/IP connection.
