Hey guys
I just decided to switch one of my computers from Linux to BSD. Now in the computer I installed it on it has two Linux compatible NIC's. What I don't get is when I try to use them they tell me "NO CARRIER"
I am too used to Linux so i don't know the BSD equivalent of 'lspci'
I do know however the model numbers of the cards. Intel 82551 and Intel 82557. ifconfig just tells me the nics are UP and the status still says no carrier. Can you please help out a new BSD user?
Awesome
I got my flash drive mounted and all the data saved and stored. I'm feeling pretty good about this. Also I know it isnt the cable, it's fine.
ok get ready for a stream of data
ifconfig_fxp1="DHCP"

ifconfig_fxp0="DHCP"

I have never seen this message "no carrier", notably on well renowned
Intel etherexpress cards except when the card is unplugged. Are you sure
you have plugged the cable in the good slots?
By the way, for these cards you have interest to load microcode like
that:
ifconfig_fxp0="DHCP link0"
Then you see in dmesg
fxp0: Microcode loaded, int_delay: 1000 usec bundle_max: 6
For me it works better that way.

Also i haven't seen any wireless Intel cards in you pciconf so all
this stuff about iwi, etc. is out of order. Maybe you are confusing your
kernel by loading crap.

I know it's not the cable. I made the cable, tested it and even used it on another computer. I took it out lastnight and plugged it into my laptop and it works fine.

Have you ever heard of cross-over cables? You can use those for
direct connection between two devices thus not needing a hub or a
switch. But if you put one of those into a hub and/or switch
you can readily get 'no carrier'.

Bill

OK I dont get why everyone is talking about a cross over cable. I dont need a cross over cable to plug into the router. I'm trying to get it connected to the net not to another computer.
