Actually, I disagree with this statement.
Yes, it is easier to setup some Linux distributions for desktop use,
than to do the same for FreeBSD.
But once you have managed to setup a FreeBSD machine for desktop use, it
is as usable as any Linux desktop machine.
I agree that fbsd works well as a desktop, it really isn't just for
servers. I can get and run most of the desktops apps I need.
In fact, can't think of anything I haven't been able to get running.
Even 3d opengl stuff if you got an nvidia card (dunno about ati).
What's really nice about fbsd is that once you get the hang of
installing ports, making occasional changes to /etc/rc.conf, etc,
it's really easy to administer, and you use similar steps to install
every package. The other thing I like is that it doesn't try to
hide unix and pretend its a kind of windows.
