But "host" insists on
1. adding the domain to "localhost", even when there is no "search" in
resolv.conf
2. using DNS to resolve, never the hosts file

Well, I get:

wolf# host localhost
localhost.tavi.co.uk has address 127.0.0.1
wolf#

which seems fine to me. But then I did set up my own DNS for that
domain.
