I already know where the Linux kernel is, I'm curious about the UNIX
kernel. Thanks!
Long ago, it was /unix. Then, for all of the early Berkely variants that
I used at Uni, it was /vmunix, and that's where FreeBSD put it up until
about version 3 or 4. NetBSD still puts it in /, but has always called it
/netbsd. Similarly, Mac OS-X calls it /mach_kernel.
Modern FreeBSD has had a smarter multi-stage boot loader for a while, and
has moved the kernel into /boot/kernel/kernel.
Note that FreeBSD isn't a certified UNIX(TM). It's a while since I used
one that was, so I don't know where they keep their kernels, these days.
