If
you're looking for a GUI on boot, then I believe you need to set up XDM or similar...
Some people consider this to be the joy of working with BSD as they have total 100% control over their systems. The cruft kept to a minimum.
install OS, compile applications, install applications, configure applications, run applications then repeat for window manager, office suite, web browser, mail client etc etc
Others not used to this consider it a royal PITA. There is a project that is running that has done alot of the hard work for you. DesktopBSD, have a look, might be more what you are looking for. It has freebsd under the hood but benefits from an easy installer and KDE and GUI tools installed by default for a usable desktop environment.
