Interesting. We would somehow need to see the output of "disklabel wd0"
and "fdisk wd0".

Can you configure the network on the laptop using sysinst or manually
after boot? If you can do so, "disklabel wd0 > /tmp/dl.out" then "fdisk
wd0 > /tmp/fd.out" then ftp those files off the box to some place else and
post them there.

NetBSD should be able to dissern between the physical disk geometry and
the BIOS reported geometry and work around them, given the NetBSD
partition resides below the BIOS boot limit.

Of course, did you check with Toshiba for a BIOS update? [*stifles a
devilish laugh*]
